It became a challenge, will be the same SAMBA Samba gives!!

---

Setup samba again but still appears a Linux box in Network Neighborhood but not leading, tb setup squid but I think if the internal network does not work connection sharing does not work correct me tb if I'm wrong!

My network is well
Madrake 8.1 IP 192.168.1.1 IP 192.168.1.4
Windows 98/SE
I which can be Algua configuration windows 98se, because when I ping the Linux box to windows type:

[icon_arrow.gif] MDK 8.1 Linux machine in the terminal

Ping 192.168.1.4
send packets 74 packets received 74 packets 0% loss

[icon_arrow.gif] Windows 98 machine

In Prompt DOS

Ping 192.168.1.1 Packets sent Packets Received 0 Lost 4 4 (100% loss)
Configureio tb option WINS with the linux machine IP 192.168.1.1

I think there are some configuration missing!
seems that the shares that I created do not exist.
Give me a hand.

This is my setup SAMBA: # Samba

Created the Linux users.
The working group appears only in the Linux networking environment RWIN when I'm logged in as root.
I know it's tricky Linux in the beginning, so I had a huge head Dorde I connect the internet broadband cable modem with the Canbras, but now it is easy to configure the connection is not a beast with 7 heads, but I'm having trouble with samba duty be something very simple that I'm wrong but I had never used and am having difficulties.

--- I've done more than seven different configurations in samba not know what else to do, a staff there help!!! --- Alan

,
Please explain better what you want to do .. you want to use SAMBA to authenticate users on the network Or want to use it to share folders with Windows machines Or want to share the Internet using a SQUID :
If you want to use SAMBA, use SWAT to configure it:
There is no way to share files from Linux to Linux machines unless the Samba. All programs that Microsoft shares with networks working on it.
Things first then. Firstly, you need to make sure that both Samba and Swat are installed and active. You can do this simply by using the following commands (as root): #

# urpmi urpmi samba samba-swat
If you already installed the commands return a message "everything already installed "but will only provide the CDs to install Mandrake. These commands also work on other distributions.
The next step is to activate both, which can be done using the commands:
# service smb start # service swat start

Ready, but now, you can use the Swat. Open a browser and access any address "http://localhost:901" to access the Samba settings. For your network work, you need only:
1 - Sign-Up (s) log (s) of user who is using the Windows machine in the "Password".
2 - Access section
"Globals"
and configure the computer name (netbios name) and workgroup (workgroup). Enjoy also to set the "Security" with the value share, which will allow all users to access shares.
3 - Access the "Shares" and create the shares that are available on the network.
If later you want more security, you can change the configuration of the Security option to "User", so you can define which users have access to the shares, who can write and who can only read the files and so on. Samba offers many options as Windows NT Server, so it may seem a little tricky at first. But in return, over time you will find that you can do many things with it. In
MDK you can also share folders by simply clicking the right button on a folder and accessing the "sharing", as in Windows. To enable this feature, go to the Mandrake Control Center ("MCC" in a terminal), go to the "mount points" and then "connection sharing". Now just check the "allow all users" so that the resource is available.
This feature is nothing more than a front-end for Samba to facilitate the shares. So to use it you need to maintain service smb enabled anyway.
words Morimoto!
If you want Samba to enable himself to every boot in Mandrake Control Center, on the System> Services (if I remember correctly ), leave checked (marked) the smb service (or Samba) and swat it to activate on every boot. Then do not miss it.
And always use linux as a normal user. When in a terminal and need to become root, just type su [enter] that will be asked for the password ...
Well, I stop here or I'll write an e-book: lol :: lol :: lol: ---

First thanks for the E-book.
I want to share the folders with the Linux machines rwin98se with SAMBA, and the Internet is already in funcinando tb Linux and want to share the internet connection using squid, squid already installed but it also does not work.
That's what is on your E-Book I've done step by step, but I think the problem may be another, when you start Linux MDK it shows that yellow star that says there is something wrong message is:
WINS SERVER SMB DIE () COLD NOT MARK WINS 127.0.0.1 [/ b] ---

Good mexi never anything with samba. kick:
configure the localhost 127.0.0.1 # ifconfig it
And if I enganho this is the WINS NETBIOS, tbm can're named LMHOSTS.
Netbios're operating lies within the windows config tcp / ip support in linux desbilito (tbm desbilito win in the config).

--- Man, do not know if I understood, but this e-book is of Morimoto, the love of God, eh 8O
Man, it seems that SAMBA's with dick ... could try installing again, removing the old ... download the version (RPM) more current http://us1.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages
Another: Your smb.conf not okay .... part of path is not correct: roll:
Type in a terminal the command testparm he takes a look at your co configuration file, and indicates the grossest mistakes: lol: So does
: type kdsu kedit / etc / samba / smb.conf and let something like this:
[homes ]
Home_Dir
comment = read only = No browseable = No

[data] path =
arranges it here read only =
In
guest ok = Yes browseable = No

Try to make it as easy as possible, then go improving, you know
On the path, have to take the path that qeur type:
/ etc / rc.d / init.d / smb stop
/ etc / rc.d / init.d / smb start
To 'reset' the service and the changes to
into force ... Well, I think I wrote too much again ops: But
already have enough stuff for you to play e ... be sure to imiprimir this page and make things easy ...
Hugs and good luck!

--- I know the e-book is the Morimoto was the first I tried to use step by step, but so obrigago memo.
I'll try to install samba again and put the settings that you posted.
give'll tell you if it worked!
