unconfigured keyboard

After two years of my nephew use my laptop, my keyboard has to be totally mangled: some letters were replaced by numbers or characters such as asterisk, parenthesis, and so on. But how to solve the problem, if every time you type in google, the field was just filled with "* 6 tec3ad6 desc6nf5g4rad6 r6b3e0a c60" or "* 6 Tec3ad6 r6b3e0a c60" instead of "Keyboard mangled"? Thanks to a colleague discovered that the solution to this problem is quite simple: you're using a compact keyboard that has a keypad and your Num Lock key (Num Lock) is enabled. That is, to solve the problem press the Num Lock key (Num Lock) again and everything is back to normal.
