Surfing the net with Linux

'm in need of help!!
My modem (Lucent / Agere) connects the good, but when I open the browser and type in an address, it takes pacas practical open, and when you open the message comes: "An error occurred while loading http://X255.net: Unknown host X255.net," What is this No matter what browser or address.
Anyone have a solution --- Must be

resolv.conf or lock.
See if you have the file / etc / resolv.conf, if you have not create it in any text editor.
Open / etc / ppp / options and delete the line: lock
Open kppp and clears use lock file in miscellaneous increases the maximum time of 60 pppd practical, leave the port speed to 57K (not 115 as I see out there), load the module bsd_comp.

--- I had this problem in mandrake 8.1 comandp fix this, login as root in shell type, route del default, enter the kppp and see it connects, if navager just add this line to / etc / rc.d / rc.local
