For those who have and want to silence Volcano6 **!

This is for those who have the Volcano 6 ** and can not stand the noise:

We all know (well, almost everyone) that we have two types of power from the source: 12V - yellow wire (standard coolers and Volcano), and 5V - red wire.
The Volcano 6 ** comes with three wires: The earth - black, 12V - red (red is the only volcano ; the 12V supply wire is yellow!), and the RPM gauge wire, yellow.

Theory:

Connect the wire VOLCANO 12V output from 5V supply. Less power, he turns the fan slower and decreases the noise.

Practice:

Take the connector Volcano, and drop the RED and BLACK wires. Just let the little piece of plastic connected to the YELLOW. DO NOT CUT THE WIRES, detach them. You will see on one side of the connector, each slit. Tighten these small cracks with a little key and they come off easily, even after reencaixadas can be extremely easily, if you want to return the volcano to its normal power.
Molex Get a free source, and call:
Black on Black V6 source.
Red Red V6 in the source.
To make this connection, simply fit the ends of the Volcano little hole in the middle of the molex. Easy, easy.
With this, you will feed your Volcano to 5V instead of 12V. The fan will spin slower, reducing the noise MUCH.
Results!: My
temperature with the V6 was usually 37 ° idle and 46 full load.
This in an XP1800 with for over 2100 (vcore 1.800). RPM of the volcano in 7000-7300.
With the modified V6, the V6 engine RPM drops to 3000. The noise decreases DRASTICALLY, you have the impression that it is unplugged, so quiet.
Performance 44 º idle and 52 full load. Very good.
Note that there was an increase of only 7 and 6 idle full load (on average 6-8 ° overall).
Ask me if it's worth 7-8 degrees increase and decrease the noise, I reply that I SIIIIIIIIMMMMM! SIIIIIIIMMMMMM! Silence, how wonderful! And did not have to buy another cooler!
The damned stood silent pacas and optimum performance. The performance is due to the heat sink itself, which is based on copper and is an excellent heat sink. The fan slows down to 3000rpm, but still has an excellent cooling power.
Maybe in the summer, the temperature rise about 5 degrees. But if you think necessary, can rewire the stems of the V6 (since you did not make the mistake of cutting the cables rather than disengage them from the plastic fitting).
Recommend! (May seem silly to many, but only those who have a V6 know the noise) ---

me seems like a good idea.
Interesting, would also use a simple little key (C & K) to make contact in both 5V and 12V.
In this case, open the micro presisaria qdo wished to change the rotation.
type would be the seventh.

--- I have a Volcano 6 ** and I know how hes loud, even if kuando estah surfing the net and at dawn soh estah on your pc, the V6 seems a hair dryer.
But there is a however: the V6 h facing a cooler for overclocking, so prioritizes coolant instead of the noise. kem naum are happy with the V6 just troke cooler, ateh because you can sell it and buy another cheaper q money to spare.
nothing against your topic, skankster, soh guess this goes against the original purpose product.
hugs

--- Interesting, any day I try this with my V6 turbine
hehe

No, it is facing a cooler for overclocking. A Watercooler is facing a cooler for overclocking. A volcano6 not.
Try cheaper coolers in XP and you'll see. Or a T-Bird.
I agree if you say that the V6 is a powerful CPU cooler, but do not agree that it is a cooler for overclockers.
Anyway, to buy another cooler, it takes money.
If you buy another cooler, will not have the same performance of the V6. You buy another cheap cooler and quieter, you will not have optimal performance, and still slip up will make more noise (eg conheco BJ0-1 and is so noisy as the V6, but not cool as well).

So it was natural for those who have the V6, readapt him not to fuss knife (and still maintain good performance).
Got it Who does not want, do not touch ... I'm just giving an option for those who ALREADY HAVE A V6 and want to avoid the noise without losing much performance.

--- Well, I bought this to replace a cooler Coolermaster q had, but it is waaaay louder earlier qo (q to see not so good are specs of anything, the difference between a and another is 1dbA on paper, but is not it seemed ... q).
the tip ... I'll try! Thanks, t!

PS: So 5V right There has problem with "soft-start" the cooler

--- It did not not ... He gets to 5V 3000rpm, a speed still considerable. No problem to give the fans start
Manjo I do not much electronics, but I believe that if we could leave him with 7 or 8V, would be perfect. RPM it should rise to about 4000, 4500 and still remain silent.
I try to study about ...

--- Excellent post.
I had the v6 and v7 by quickly changed. With a well-ventilated gab he stays low and is very quiet.

--- If you connect the wires in the cooler 12 and you get about 5V 7V the output ... I'll try it too! --- Even

Red volcano in red font
Black volcano in yellow font
But the ground (black volcano) need not be in the ground source not

--- It is, some time ago I read a post on a q kra had explained nicely the wiring diagram to get 7v, I THINK it was the following q
Volcano Red ------ Yellow ------ Source
Volcano Black Red Source
by q I would understand 7v 12v-5v = 7v, due to the potential difference

there was in 4500 ~ 5000 rpm
if I had a V6 I tried this, indeed not even know how my PC still works, because q've tried to do with it ... I will not quote here because it would be a bad example for all hehehehe

--- Not necessarily, as our colleague said above. I will not explain the theory, but if you turn the wire 5 and the result is 7v 12v.
And if you want 17V, simply connect the wires-5v and 12v ... : Twisted:
and 24v, just connect the wires and 12v-12v ... : Twisted :: roll: ---

tbém I lowered my rotation of my CoolerMaster DP5-6l31A. Nominally runs at 5500rpm at 12V. But could not stand the noise. I put a regulator based on LM7809 IC, thus 9V. The cooler runs at 4500rpm and was now much quieter.
Could leave even less voltage, which would help more, but the way it's got significantly better.

--- So, for 7V terms in the case of volcano, what is the scheme
Volcano black -> red red volcano
source -> source
yellow
is this

--- P / Skanker:
Connect the red and yellow that you will 7V. It will be quieter and faster than c / 5V.
Joscar

--- I thought the topic Skankster excellent, pity that no longer have my V6 **
I sold just grannde the noise he made. It was UNBEARABLE! I went to a one-stroke 112BJ0, very good indeed. But it was still a bit batulhento.
Now I have a V7 which is excellent. Runs on 3800 RPM and it's 24dB ... or hear it on .. VERY GOOD!!
With my o / c is at 49 º C at full load .. --- Great

topic.
In the old forum Extreme PC (see link below) I had already commented on this type of modification including whether a site with explanations site that I point out the link above for an explanation for the connection of the cooler on 7 volts.
very hot! Doubts are closed!
For the record, I have a Volcano 6 ** and not completely follow the instructions of the site indicated. They suggest that the modification is done directly on the cables from the source. I preferred to use a small adapter with two molex that is relatively easy to find in commerce.
Until today I have a Volcano 6 ** without the syndrome, hair dryer. --- Oops

Almir, as it is, blz
How long! Tava gone
the V6 Face ** is an excellent cooler ... with this mod so it's perfect.
Hugs e ---

Skanks Yo! Got a tip GlobalWIN WBK38 and served perfectly with it! It has almost the same specifications as the Volcano 6 **, just do not have a copper base. My processor was about 10 ° hotter (56 ° and 60 ° normal peak). I'm using thermal zinc. Then I ask to you: if I put the silver thermal compound (like Arctic Silver 3) and use the Thermaltake Copper Shim temperature will decrease considerably Consider that I live in Fortaleza and here is very hot ... : Roll: ---

What a coincidence! In explanation of the guy he used exactly one Icrontic GlobalWIN WBK38. I will carefully study his observations ... 8O

Page 3

--- Oops! I used the technique to Icrontic cabinet coolers in my WBK38 using 7V instead of 5V. The cooler was a bit faster and there was almost no change in noise. But the cool thing is that the temperature decreases to 50.5 ° normal/53, 5 ° peak. It was pure beauty! Not to mention that I have not finished doing all the mods I'm planning to vent ... : Twisted:
---
decided otherwise.
I changed the fan to 7000 rpm the V6 by another 4500 rpm. Greatly improved and the temp went up about 5 ° C.
